Lion’s Club Australia – Feel Good Lunch

Thank you to the Lion’s Club Australia for organising the “Feel Good Lunch”. We’re glad to have sponsored such a fantastic event!
We had the opportunity to listen to various speakers yesterday talking about the dreadful effects of childhood cancer, and together, we discussed ways we can do in the community to support these families.
Since 1996, Lions Club Australia has shown oustanding commitment contributing over $5 million to childhood cancer research. This effort has resulted in, amongst other things, safer and more effective treatment for cancer patients which helps shorten hospitalisation and quicker recovery.
Lions Club Australia also assist in many other community and health projects, and funding for foundations and programs. If you would like to find out more about their club, please visit their website

The Walk for Justice

We were thrilled to take part in The Walk for Justice annual fundraising event on the 17th of May!
The Walk for Justice event aims to raise vital funds to help JusticeNet SA provide pro bono legal assistance to low-income and disadvantaged South Australians. It’s such a fantastic cause and we had the chance to mingle with other members within the legal and business communities on this day!

The morning walk through the beautiful botanical gardens to Victoria Square was lovely : )
A BIG final thanks to all our family and friends who supported us to reach our fundraising target. We managed to donate a total of $735 to this event, and we can’t be anymore appreciative of your help 🙂

Law Society Charity Day

As part of the Law Society Charity Day on the 27th of November, staff at CARES Lawyers spent the afternoon volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House in North Adelaide. We were prepared to clean toilets, but instead got to put up the Christmas tree and decorate the house with the kids. We had a BALL! Dancing, singing, playing with the children and chatting to their inspirational parents. What this charity does for the families with sick kids is just amazing.

To make a donation and find out more about what they do please visit:here (and every time you are at McDonald, make sure you make a donation – those coin buckets account for 1/3 of the charity’s donations!).

Unfortunately,we weren’t allowed to take any pictures of the kids – but if you are seeing this kids (you know who you are), CARES Lawyers send you big hugs!!

Free Community Legal Education

Thank you to all who have attended our Free Community Legal Education that was held on Sunday 25/10/15.
Thank you also to those who assisted us with the catering and set up – which all contributed to the success of the event.

We look forward to organising another one again sometime in the future!

Law Q&A and Networking event

Tina Bruno, family lawyer, and Associate Director of CARES Lawyers, was been asked to be one of the speakers at the Q&A and Networking law event night organised by the Bright Futures Society at the University of South Australia.

A big thank you again to Tina Bruno for being one of the speakers – it was an incredible success!!
Tina did an absolutely wonderful job, as she provided information and shared stories about her journey to young law students. We believed she truly inspired them by the end of the night!

Human Rights speech – Sydney NSW

It was an honour to hear our very own Teresa Ngoc Tran (the artist formally known as Crystal !) speak about her home country Vietnam in Sydney over the weekend. I had an interpreter assist me, but even through the language barrier the emotion and passion of her speech was really evident.
Teresa believes in fighting for basic human rights and helping her home country. She acknowledges and is so grateful to Australia. She honestly reduced people to tears. The English translation will be coming to a store near you. Change must begin with a step forward – Tina Bruno. You can view Teresa’s video speech here

Vietnamese SBS Radio interviewed Ms Ngoc Teresa Tran

Director of CARES Lawyers was recently interviewed by the Vietnamese SBS radio about her life and the formation of CARES Lawyers. You can hear the full interview (in Vietnamese) here

Community Legal Education

The entire CARES Adelaide team made the journey to Sydney to be involved in providing free community legal education to the Vietnamese community in Sydney. CARES staff were honoured to be involved in such an event along with Registrar Dinh Tran and Mr Than Nguyen of Than Nguyen & Partners. It was also filmed by SBS for those unable to attend on the day.

Participants got the opportunity to learn more about the Family Court from Registrar Dinh Tran who gave some very practical examples of how the family law system works. Mr Than Nguyen gave a very interesting talk on international laws regarding the sea and our very own Ngoc (Teresa) Tran spoke about wills and family category visas. The audience asked many questions which enabled participants to get the very best out of this free session. Teresa got asked the most questions – not surprisingly about wills! This topic usually brings up many questions (if you are reading this please contact us if you do not have a will!!)

Our guests also got a special surprise, with the cast of CARES Lawyers singing a very special song. The song, ‘Mother in the Dream’ was written by a Mongolian boy who longs for his deceased mother. It was sung in Vietnamese and Mongolian by Teresa and the rest of the team as backup! Our very talented guitarist, Victor Thang, managed to tune the borrowed guitar just in time! A special mention must go to our non-Vietnamese speaking staff for dazzling the audience with their Vietnamese singing skills, so well done to Tina Bruno and Uma Mahadeva!

A very special thank you must go to our Para Legal Officer (and very soon to be solicitor) Vanessa Tran. At present, as the only staff member based in Sydney, she did an amazing job of organising and the event would not have occurred without her. So thank you Vanessa. Any event is not complete without free food…not only do CARES staff provide professional legal and (apparently) singing services, we can bake too! Many thanks to the wonderful Phung, Trang, Ly, Vanessa and consultant lawyer Paul Avina for baking till 2am in a professional bakery. They were delicious and worth the effort.

Last but certainly not least, CARES Lawyers must also give a very big thank you to Registrar Dinh Tran, Mr Thuan Nguyen, Mr Than Nguyen, the President of the Vietnamese Community in NSW and its members. CARES believes in free community legal education, and having other community members involved in helping to achieve this goal of educating the public is invaluable.

Whilst in Sydney the CARES team were honoured to participate in this fund raising event to support the victims of the earthquake in Nepal. The event was organised by the Vietnamese community in Sydney who did an outstanding job of not only raising awareness and much needed funds, but cooking and singing up a storm! The event was held at the Italian Club who also donated $40,000 to this cause. CARES really does think that Vietnamese and Italians make a very good team.

CARES Lawyers 1st Anniversary

5 September 2014 was a very special day for CARES…it was our first year anniversary. To mark this momentous occasion the entire team (including our Sydney staff!) celebrated at Red Ochre Restaurant. We shared wonderful memories of the journey thus far: the years of planning; the undertaking of very significant renovations; our achievements in terms of expansion over the past 12 months and of course recognition of the hard work and dedication everyone has put in thus far. We will always keep striving to provide the best possible service to our clients and providing that service with CARE.
